Serviceberry is a four-season plant offering white flowers in spring, small red berries in summer, excellent fall color and gray bark in winter. It tolerates a variety of habitats. The fruit is good tasting, but is usually eaten very quickly by birds. Larger animals feed on the leaves and twigs. Leaf spots, rust, and pear slugs can be problematic.
