Pollinator Safety Corners Program
The Pollinator Safety Corners Program provides incentives for landowners to convert small areas of cropland at rural intersections into low-growing grasses and wildflowers. These plantings help improve driver visibility while establishing pollinator habitat.
Program Overview
Participants enroll 1 to 3 acres of cropland located at rural intersections. Enrolled areas are seeded with a mix of short grasses and wildflowers designed to maintain clear sightlines.
Incentives & Contract Details
- $75 per acre cost-share for seed mix
- 5-year contract
- One-time upfront payment of $1,250 per acre
- Project signage provided at no cost
Participants are responsible for site preparation, planting, and ongoing maintenance, including weed control.
Eligible Land
To qualify, land must:
- Be cropland adjacent to a rural intersection
- Include 1 to 3 acres at the intersection corner
- Be located within the Lower Platte South NRD
How It Works
Tall crops at intersections can limit visibility for approaching traffic. This program replaces those areas with low-growing vegetation that maintains clear sightlines and meets recommended safety standards.
