The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District is sharing upcoming deadlines for producers participating in the Nitrogen Reduction Incentive Act, commonly known as NiRIA. The program provides financial incentives to producers who reduce nitrogen applications to approved standards. Key dates for both the 2025 and 2026 growing seasons are outlined below to help participants stay informed throughout the application and verification process.
Deadlines for Producers Applying for the 2026 Growing Season
Producers planning to participate in the 2026 NiRIA program must submit their applications to their local NRD by December 15, 2025. After reviewing submissions, NRDs will notify producers of their enrollment status by February 15, 2026.
Producers who are accepted into the program will have until December 15, 2026, to submit verification materials documenting nitrogen reductions that meet NiRIA program requirements. Once verification is complete, NRDs will issue payments to eligible producers by February 15, 2027.
Deadlines for Producers Participating in the 2025 Growing Season
Producers who applied for and participated in the 2025 NiRIA cycle must submit verification of nitrogen reductions by January 15, 2026. After reviewing these submissions, NRDs will distribute incentive payments to eligible producers by March 15, 2026.
Supporting Water Quality and Sustainable Practices
The Nitrogen Reduction Incentive Act is an important tool for incentivizing responsible nitrogen management practices that protect ground water quality and support long-term soil health. NRDs encourage all participants to review the deadlines closely and reach out with any questions to ensure compliance with program requirements.
