The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) is accepting applications for a District Engineer. This position is open until filled, with a first review date of Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at noon.
- Starting Wage: Minimum $110,000, negotiable based on experience
- Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the General Manager, the District Engineer is responsible for executing professional engineering tasks related to LPSNRD programs and projects. This role includes reviewing engineering studies, managing projects, coordinating with consultants, and evaluating proposals, models, designs, reports, and contracts.
Key Responsibilities
(Duties listed below are not exhaustive and may be adjusted as required.)
- Provide engineering expertise for District projects, including flood control dams, levees, streambank stabilization, and stormwater basins.
- Coordinate with consultants and review proposals, models, designs, plans, reports, contracts, and cost estimates.
- Oversee project management, conduct site inspections, and prepare recommendations and reports.
- Review and respond to external plans, programs, studies, and projects affecting the District.
- Support completed NRD projects through inspections, maintenance, emergency action plans, and flood-fighting responsibilities.
- Design of smaller (in-house) NRD projects, as needed.
- Supervise the Projects Coordinator and Land & Flood Control Operations Coordinator.
- Represent the District at public meetings, community events, and stakeholder discussions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
(The following may be acquired on the job and are essential for success in this role.)
- Strong knowledge of watershed and stream hydrology, hydraulics, and data analysis.
- Understanding of engineering principles related to water resource projects, including construction methods, inspection techniques, permitting, and contracting.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with both rural and urban stakeholders.
- Ability to supervise and direct team members effectively.
- Strong relationship-building skills to work with contractors, landowners, governmental agencies, and the public.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) Licensed in Nebraska or have the ability to become licensed in Nebraska within six months.
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Civil Engineering with a water resources focus.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to lift at least 20 pounds
