2024 Backyard Prairie Pollinator Program

2024 Backyard Prairie Pollinator Program

February 13, 2024

UPDATE: The full allotment of seed has been distributed for the 2024 program. Applications will no longer be accepted until the program opens back up in 2025.

This program provides local-ecotype native seed at no-cost to the landowner that will help foster a vibrant ecosystem and benefit our surrounding community.

Pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, and other insects, play a critical role in ecosystems and agriculture by transferring pollen from the male reproductive organs to the female reproductive organs of a flower, directly contributing to increased crop yields along with quality.

“This program is a great hands-on opportunity for residents to increase pollinator habitat in their community. Whether it be on acreages or suburban neighborhoods, participants will be cultivating a native ecosystem,” said Will Inselman, LPSNRD Resources Coordinator.

Habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change and disease have contributed to the decline in pollinator populations globally. Efforts to conserve and support pollinators by enrolling in programs such as this one, is critical for maintaining the health of our ecosystems and ensures food security.

All program participants will be responsible for site preparation, seeding and maintenance of the plot.
