Conserve our Water

Outdoor Water Conservation Tips:

  • Water lawns and gardens in the morning or evening to avoid evaporation.
  • Only water your lawn if it is dry.  Step on it.  If it stands back up it has enough moisture for a couple of days.
  • Adjust sprinklers to only water the lawn, not the sidewalk or street.
  • Use native and drought-tolerant plants in your landscape. These plants need minimal amounts of water to thrive.

Indoor Water Conservation Tips:

  • Fix or replace dripping nozzles and faucets.
  • Limit shower time.  Each minute you save saves ten gallons of water.
  • Low flow shower heads save water, but maintain the intensity of the spray.  Get them at any hardware store.
  • Chill a pitcher of water in the refrigerator, instead of running tap water until it gets cold.
  • Be sure the dishwasher is full when you run it.  It uses the same amount of water, regardless of the load size.
  • Put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank.  If the color shows up in the toilet bowl without it being flushed, there is a leak.  Even if you can't replace your toilet kit yourself, the money you save by fixing the leak will pay for a plumber.
