Marsh Wren Saline Wetland
Marsh Wren Saline Wetland
Marsh Wren is the largest and latest of several saline wetland restoration projects by the NRD, south of 40th Street and Arbor Road in Lincoln. The 150-acre site is bordered on the west by Little Salt Creek and on the south by Salt Creek. Installation of a salt water irrigation system and hydrological improvements were completed at Marsh Wren in 2017, but before pumping any saltwater onto the wetland, a geological “snap shot” of the property, including soil scanning and the installation of time-lapse photography equipment, was taken by researchers. The restoration is being closely monitored by the NRD, our consultant; The Flatwater Group; and the University of Nebraska to gather information that could prove useful in future saline wetland restoration projects.
A parking area with a trail leading to an observation deck has also been constructed to encourage public visitation to Marsh Wren and the wetland has become a popular destination for bird watchers.
