Marsh Wren Saline Wetland

Marsh Wren Saline Wetland

Wetlands Rules & Regulations

Marsh Wren is the largest and latest of several saline wetland restoration projects by the NRD within the corporate limits of Lincoln. The 150-acre site is bordered on the west by little Salt Creek and on the south by Salt Creek. Installation of a salt water irrigation system and hydrological improvements were completed at Marsh Wren in 2017, but before pumping any saltwater onto the wetland, a geological “snap shot” of the property, including soil scanning and the installation of time-lapse photography equipment, was taken by researchers. The restoration is being closely monitored by the NRD, our consultant; The Flatwater Group; and the University of Nebraska to gather information that could prove useful in future saline wetland restoration projects.

A parking area with a trail leading to an observation deck has also been constructed to encourage public visitation to Marsh Wren and the wetland has become a popular destination for bird watchers.
