Fall Groundwater Measurements Down

Fall Groundwater Measurements Down

December 16, 2021

LPSNRD measures a district-wide network of wells twice yearly, in the spring and fall.  Data from the 150 measurements this fall shows levels are down an average of about two feet, compared to data from last spring.  Water Resources Conservationist Chris Witthuhn said the overall decrease, "is fairly typical of fall levels, after a summer of irrigation pumping and not much in the way of precipitation."  While fall levels show the impact on an aquifer from an irrigation season, spring-to-spring level comparisons, generally, provide a more realistic indication of aquifer conditions.
