LPRCA/MapMaker

The Lower Platte River Corridor Alliance (LPRCA) is an advisory organization which serves local governments and other concerns along the lower Platte River, between Columbus and Plattsmouth. The goal of the LPRCA is to preserve the river in as natural a state as possible, while still serving all concerns; recreation, urban, agricultural, tourism, industry, wildlife, etc. Membership includes three NRDs (Lower Platte South, Lower Platte North and the Papio-Missouri River), Conservation and Survey Division, NE Dept. Health and Human Services, NE Dept. of Environmental Quality, NE Game and Parks Commission, NE State Military Dept.-Emergency Management, and the NE Department of Natural Resources. The LPRCA has no regulatory authority, but encourages local government to enact in the best interests of the river community as a whole.

One product of the LPRCA, originally intended to aid local government in the corridor, is an on-line mapping service called NRD MapMaker. Because of the advanced technology involved, the demand for the kinds of capabilities found on the MapMaker site and it's ease of operation, the project has expanded beyond it's original intent. Several eastern Nebraska NRDs, usually outside the scope of the LPRCA, have contributed to become part of the project.
