Dam Rehabilitations

The NRD is utilizing the federal Small Watershed Rehabilitation Program to bring three dams into compliance with current federal standards for high hazard dams. Those standards have changed since the dams were built. Dams where there has been significant construction of residential and commercial structures downstream, increasing the likelihood of loss of life if the dam fails, get higher priority treatment under the program. The three dams being rehabilitated in the Lower Platte South NRD and their locations are listed below. The dams are in various stages of rehabilitation.

• Upper Salt 10-A (Hedgefield Dam), southeast of Hickman
• Upper Salt 19-B, 96th Street and Saltillo Road
• Upper Salt 35-A, in northeast Hickman

Informational open houses, like the one pictured above, have allowed interested citizens to stay informed as the three dams move to various stages of rehabilitation.
